Tips and Ideas
- Do a load of laundry every day.
This sounds simple, but it will do wonders for keeping control. Think you can't do one load every day? Start a load when you first wake up and throw it in the dryer as you leave for work. That evening, quickly fold it and it's done! If you're concerned about wrinkles, wait to put the load into the dryer until you get home from work. Try it... you'll be amazed at how you feel in control when you aren't facing a MOUNTAIN of laundry at one time!
- Think square.
When purchasing containers for closets, cabinets or shelves think square. Square containers give optimal use of space (where circle containers have lots of wasted space) and allow you to store more.
- Practice "One In, One Out".
Make it a rule whether it's a book, new shirt or magazine. When one comes in your home, one must go out. Sticking by this principle will keep you from accumulating more things than you have space for.
- Give yourself permission to "Let It Go!"
Just because your mother or grandmother gave you a present does NOT mean that you MUST keep it FOREVER. When you're done with it or it no longer serves a purpose, give yourself permission to "Let it Go!" and donate it to an organization that will find it a good home.
- Pick ONE space in your home for mail and paper.
Having a SINGLE location for papers and mail contains the paper clutter and allows everyone in the home to know where to go to find certain items.
